My friend decided to join me yesterday at the Upland location where I was pleasantly surprised to see many many more routes for both climbing and bouldering. I had previously only visited the Rancho Cucamonga site (once), which only had bouldering. Isaac and Mike were very knowledgable and helpful w/both hangar 18 policies/perks and climbing in general. Its a decent size, but as a beginner there’s only so many you can climb. An hour or two of switching off between the climber & rope handling, we were pretty much done with it. There’s many different levels but unless you are a natural with much upper body strength, the kid ones are where its at. After a bit practice with the instructor, you are free to climb anything you want for as long as you want. Warning: This is a partnered activity and you will need a second person to pull the rope as you climb. Our instructor Isaac was super helpful and patient. They teach you the four checks and basics of knotting and safety of coming down. Come in, sign your life away with liability forms and orientation checklist. Lessons happen at the hourly ( 11am, 12pm, etc) so be cautious of the time you arrive. Experience: With our package, they offered lessons which is definitely needed. Around 1pm, it started dying down and theres no wait time to climb any of the levels. The place in itself is not meant to handle huge amounts of crowds, so avoid morning hours especially during breaks. However, any skepticism of the place is negated once you step inside - it is actually v pretty with all the colored rocks. Location/Ambience: Located within a warehouse-like building, it is pretty hard to find/may seem a little dead in the surrounding areas especially during weekdays. But perhaps a bit underwhelming for the general $ 33. Overall: Had a Groupon so for $ 15/person, it was a great experience for the price. «Air conditioned bouldering gym, anyone? The staff are awesome, the climbs are great, and the place is clean and new. Customer safety and satisfaction are my absolute biggest concerns, so please do not hesitate to contact me directly at and I will be happy to help you out with whatever you need. Working in this industry has been an amazing experience, because I have gotten the opportunity to introduce a huge number of people to the sport that I love. I have been climbing for over thirty years, and working in the climbing industry for just under twenty. I started working at Hangar 18 in 2004, and I have continued to oversee operations for all of our gyms as Hangar 18 grew from one business to eight. As we have grown, we continue to focus on delivering the best possible product for our members and customers, so we are always looking to improve and innovate in any way we can. The combination of low-priced memberships, emphasis on good customer service, and world-class routesetting created a huge climbing community in the area, and the gym has expanded to be the largest chain of climbing gyms in Southern California, with eight locations and counting. Located just below historic downtown Upland, this gym is the original Hangar 18 location. We have hundreds of boulder problems and roped routes available for everyone from first-time climbers to seasoned veterans, so come on by and check us out! Hangar 18 is the Inland Empire’s premier climbing gym, featuring 45ft tall walls and over 12,000 sq.
